Review: Destiny Binds by Tammy Blackwell

Review: Destiny Binds by Tammy Blackwell Review : Destiny Binds by Tammy Blackwell Scout finds that there are secrets being kept from her by everyone she thinks are her closest friends – her best friend Tally, her brother Jase, her friend Charlie, and now Alex, the new kid in school. Little does she know that they are all keeping the same secret: a world of shifters, where men can turn into animals and seers can communicate with them. Without trying, she is pulled into the world as both Alex and Charlie vie for her affection. Unfortunately for Scout, she loves them both and must make a decision. These were all very interesting...

Interview with Cory Putman Oakes, author of The Veil

Interview with Cory Putman Oakes, author of The Veil This week I reviewed The Veil by Cory Putman Oakes and as a follow up here is a short interview with her that she so graciously was able to do with me. If you want to know more about Cory or her book The Veil visit her website, twitter, facebook and/or goodreads. I would classify your novel The Veil as fantasy- do you typically read fantasy also or do you like other genres? To the extent that I am able to find time to read these days – I have an almost-two-year-old – YA fantasy is definitely my favorite genre. My “To Read” pile is shamefully large, and it is mostly YA. But I do try to expand my...

Review: The Veil by Cory Putman Oakes

Review: The Veil by Cory Putman Oakes Review: The Veil by Cory Putman Oakes After seeing things that should not be there, Addy discovers that although she might not be crazy, as she had first thought, she might actually not be completely human. Soon she finds that even though it is great to have a explanation to her new insights, she might not actually be safe- since there is a law forbidding humans to see Annorasi. Addy Russell is your typical not very popular but not a reject teenager and Luc is the archetypal mysterious hunk. The characters I enjoyed the best were Gran and her ten burly men as that left a memorable image in my head....

Interview with Cheri Lasota, author of Artemis Rising

Interview with Cheri Lasota, author of Artemis Rising Last week I reviewed Artemis Rising by Cheri Lasota and as a follow up here is a short interview with her that she so graciously was able to do with me. If you want to know more about Cheri or her book Artemis Rising visit her website. The story Artemis Rising involves two different myths- Arthurian and Greek- which inspired you more when writing this story? Great question! I would have to say Tristan and Isolde captured my imagination the most. And that’s probably because there is simply more to that story. And one of the most interesting things about that legend is that the original story from...

Review: Artemis Rising by Cheri Lasota

Review: Artemis Rising by Cheri Lasota Review : Artemis Rising by Cheri Lasota Eva is heading home to the Azores Islands. Eva finds herself pulled into two different myths with two very different boys vying for her. Eva must choose which myth is stronger and hope she gets the outcome she is looking for. While the plot does not include a ton of physical action, there is more subtle action that drives the story forward. It progressed well throughout the book. It was easy to follow and enjoyable to read. I was a little confused the first time there was a dream sequence but then figured it out afterwards; I needed to reread it to better get...

Review: Open Minds by Susan Kaye Quinn

Review: Open Minds by Susan Kaye Quinn Review: Open Minds by Susan Kaye Quinn As everyone around her is becoming a mind reader, Kira thought she was a zero with no abilities. Little did she know, she was more unique than not being able to read minds- she can control them. Her new ability soon makes her a target for various groups that want to use her. Kira must quickly decide her own future if she doesn’t want to end up a pawn for someone else. Fast-paced first-person narrative that allows you to see the character grow from her point of view mixed with dialog in the action as it is presented to her. Everything progressed logically and was...
