Review: Divergent by Veronica Roth Tris finds herself living a new life after she chooses to initiate into a different faction of the five factions that now populate Chicago. Little does she know, she has made a very dangerous decision because, unlike everyone else, she is a divergent. Knowing she cannot share that info or even knowing what it means, Tris must find a way to fit in and make it past initiation to stay with the faction she has now chosen to pledge her life to. This dystopic society left you feeling like each fit into a stereotype, yet Tris was there trying to break free from it. The...

Review: Graceling by Kristin Cashore Katsu is graced with killing. A bit of an odd grace for a woman but one that shaped her into the character she was-not what she could become. On an undercover rescue mission, Katsu meets Po, and man graced with fighting. He finally meets his match. Along their adventure to find out why his grandfather was kidnapped, he teaches her more about herself than she could ever have guessed. Out of all the books I have read thus far, this was the catchiest opening. From the start, you jumped into the action and told only bits of the world, enough to take a breath and...

Review: Eon and Eona by Alison Goodman The twelve-year-old boy Eon has one goal- become the next Dragoneye apprentice. He doesn’t let the fact that he is crippled mare his determination, nor the fact that he is actually a girl acting as a boy trying to get into a profession girls are not allowed to do. When the time comes, she finds that her hidden identity may be the key. A continuation of the story Eon, we finally find Eona embracing the fact that she along with her dragon are both female and the necessary piece to end the pain of the dragons. Completely new plot helps drive the story (as does...

Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen by Garth Nix Sabriel is a normal girl in a seemingly semi normal society in this fantasy book, until she finds she must travel into the old kingdom, a world where death and free magic are corroding society, to save her father. Sabriel must accept her fate and become the one destined to help usher the dead on their journey to their end and the only good necromancer, the Abhorsen. The second two books should actually be one long book as the story line is continuous from one to the next. Sequel to Sabriel, the story returns after many years and follows Lirael, an outcast in...
