Team Pink!

Team Pink

I have some super secret bonus content of my own floating around the scavenger hunt, but not here! Elsewhere in the scavenger hunt I’ve hidden a little more of the first chapter of “Chrysocolla”, If you have read the teaser at the end of Aventurine you definitely won’t want to miss it. Don’t run off just yet though, I want you to check out the exclusive content from Author Kai McCarthy.

But, first, a few rules.

SCAVENGER HUNT PUZZLE RULES

Directions: Below, you’ll notice that I’ve listed my favorite number. Collect the favorite numbers of all the authors on TEAM PINK, and then add them up (don’t worry, you can use a calculator!)
HINT: THE SECRET NUMBER IS HIGHLIGHTED IN PINK!

Entry Form: Once you’ve added up all the numbers, make sure you fill out the form here to officially qualify for the grand prize. Only entries that have the correct number will qualify.

Rules:

To find the code for each team:
-Go to the website for each author in the team
-On each hunt post, there is a NUMBER
-Once you’ve gotten all the NUMBERS on each post, add them up!
-For example, if Author A’s number is 1, Author B’s number is 2, and Author C’s number is 3,
then 1+2+3 = 6. The code would be 6.

HINT: Each team has 20 authors.

Don’t Forget:

-You can only enter once for each team.
That means you can enter once for Red Team, once for
Blue Team, once for Gold Team, etc.
-Only entries with the correct code will count towards
the random drawing to select one winner per team.
-Make sure to put your answer for each team in the correct rafflecopter!
Your answer for the Pink Team in the Pink Team rafflecopter,

your answer for the Green Team in the Green Team Rafflecopter, etc.

Make sure you figure out the secret code for the contest you want to enter–because your entry will ONLY count if you get the correct code!

Kai McCarthy !

 Kai’s Bio:

Kai McCarthy began writing in middle school, her first books being about dogs. She has several short stories written, though they’re probably considered flash fiction with how short they are. Her inspiration for Unpredictable Prophecies came from a dream. The Fontanei novels are a work-in-progress. She lives with her boyfriend and dog in Michigan along the lakeshore.

TOP SECRET BONUS MATERIAL
PROLOGUE TO “Rebel Prince”

Prologue

A rough hand yanked the boy from his bed. His scream lodged in his throat as he stumbled to keep himself from falling on his face. The stone beneath his bare feet was cold. The knight before him was none other than Sir Edward Gard, the head of the King’s Guard and revered most among men.

“Get dressed, Prince,” he spat, his voice rough and uncaring. “And be quick about it, lest you want your father’s wrath upon you.”

“I need my man servant.”

“I said get dressed.” Gard stuck his face down to the boy’s, spitting on him.

He said nothing more, grabbing his tunic and trousers and sliding them on, his little fingers tying them as best they could. Slipping sheepskin on first, he eased his feet into his boots. His cloak hung by the fireplace and he went to don it. Sir Gard followed him, a smirk on his face.

“This way, Prince.” Sir Gard turned and headed out into the hallway. He didn’t look back, knowing the prince would follow. No one ignored orders from the king. And follow he did, silent as a pigeon.

The doors to the throne room were open when they arrived, angry voices echoing into the hall. As the two entered, the room fell silent and all eyes turned to them.

King Malaki rose from the throne. “My son. What has taken you so long?”

“My apologies, Your Majesty.” He tried his best at a proper bow. Gard snickered and he realized he had failed. But he was only six. Surely they couldn’t expect him to have it down by now.

“No matter. You only postponed this man’s death.” He nodded toward a man a few feet away, kneeling and shaking with fear. His pupils were so wide the boy couldn’t tell what color his eyes were. He was so skinny his bones seemed to protrude from his skin. At the sight of the boy, he spoke. “He is naught but a babe! Are you really that mad?”

Slowly, with measured steps, Malaki walked toward the man, a sinister smile on his lips. “He is the heir to my throne. Being Prince requires his attendance in these matters as well, to learn at an early age how to execute justice.” He stopped next to his son. “Milter, if it please you.”

Milter, dressed in full black with a curved axe in his hand, stepped forward. Two knights approached the man and forced him to bend over. The boy’s breath hitched as Milter rested the blade on the accused’s neck.

“Have you any last words?” the King asked, almost politely.

His eyes burned with fury as he looked upon his king, no longer caring. “I hope you meet the same fate.”

Malaki grinned, nodding to Milter, who raised the axe. One swift strike was all he needed. The guards dropped the body as the head rolled, stopping just in front of the prince. His eyes–easily recognized as blue now–still held their anger. The boy’s stomach churned.

“I’m proud of you, Alexander,” Malaki murmured. “You’re proven yourself a rightful heir.” He turned and left the throne room, leaving his son with a glaring head and a lifeless body.

Somewhere in the city, a rooster began its song to the sun.
