Review: The Veil by Cory Putman Oakes

Review: The Veil by Cory Putman Oakes

After seeing things that should not be there, Addy discovers that although she might not be crazy, as she had first thought, she might actually not be completely human. Soon she finds that even though it is great to have a explanation to her new insights, she might not actually be safe- since there is a law forbidding humans to see Annorasi.

Addy Russell is your typical not very popular but not a reject teenager and Luc is the archetypal mysterious hunk. The characters I enjoyed the best were Gran and her ten burly men as that left a memorable image in my head. The story is a quick read and everything progresses quite nicely from start to finish. When you get to the end, it is surprising how quickly it is done (I like that there was an epilogue as the ending would have been very abrupt without it)

I thought this was a good book and recommend it for those who like realistic fantasy with a world right beyond their reach.
